In November the Indigenous Leadership Conference in Darwin enabled Neil Murray and Shellie Morris to perform together at the conference for the second year running.
Also last month- a big thanks to the patrons, supporters and organisers of Majors Creek Festival. Neil was well looked after and enjoyed getting up for a song with Raised By Eagles (see pic below) and guest performing "Good Light In Broome" with The Timbers.
Still on last month – it was an honour for Neil to be invited to join the Grow the Music Programme and perform at The Wallaga Lake Community concert on November 18th. This was an important heartland community event. Neil caught up with WZA (Warren Foster) and they performed their co-written song "The Healing Way". Neil also accompanied rising talent Gabadoo on his new song "Home on the Hill".
Recently Neil was a guest artist at Yirrmal's "Young Blood" EP Launch show at the Theatre Royale in Castlemaine. Neil joined Yirrmal and his band for their co-written songs "Young Blood", "Mayangan", "Get Happy" and "Keep Rollin On" then rocked out on the Warumpi Band classics, "My Island Home" and "Blackfella Whitefella"
Neil at Yirrmal’s "Young Blood" EP Launch
Neil’s final show for 2016 will be at the Fly by Night Musicians Club in Fremantle on December 29th. Neil is particularly pleased to be doing his last show in Fremantle as he applauds the recent decision by the Fremantle City Council to move the celebration of Australia day to Jan 28th.
As we close out the year, we’d like to thank everyone who has been to one of Neil Murray’s shows in 2016. We sincerely appreciate your support as it enables Neil to keep doing what he does.
TJUNGUKUTU (still together)
We also thank all those who have kindly contributed to the Tjungukutu (still together) album project. As previously advised, Sammy Butcher’s health does not permit him to be able to play guitar on the recording. It is hoped the album can be completed in 2017 with musical contributions from Sammy’s sons and nieces. Because of the uncertainty of the situation we are no longer seeking financial contributions to the project. We still intend all contributors to receive a copy of the album when it can be completed.
Next Year ...
Neil will strike out in February with 3 summer concerts accompanied by Damien Neil, these are February 10th, the Parish in Violet Town, Feb 11th the Old Church on the Hill, in Quarry Hill, Bendigo and Sunday Feb 12th at the Torquay Bowling Club. Please mark these down in your summer to do list.
Early March sees Neil’s long awaited return to the Port Fairy Folk Festival for the first time in a decade. Bound to be a hoot that one.
That’s about all for now folks. Have a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy new year. We will see you in February!
Keep the faith people
