Greetings music lovers,
The wattles have bloomed, spring is upon us- we can kick open the windows and doors and let the outside in and thaw out at last!
Thanks to all those who came out and supported Neil on his various winter escapades-not the least of which was his inaugural performance on Stradbroke Island for the Quandamooka Festival, a week of music workshops at Mutitjulu and Meridan College and the “Friends and Family play songs of Warumpi Band” at Garma Festival, where the line up of Burarrawanga brothers delivered such a powerful vocal delivery that a fine and delicate shower of rain blessed the assembled throng during the emotional performance of “My Island Home”
Coming Up ...
Neil kicks off a Spring campaign in Victoria with the 2 Worlds Festival (2worldsfestival.org.au/)on Sept 2nd at Fyansford, followed by Horsham on Sept 7th for the Wimmera Bio diversity seminar then the eagerly anticipated concert at the Old Castlemaine Gaol on Friday September 15th where he will be accompanied by Damien Neil (http://www.horshamtownhall.com.au/
Neil and Damien head to the Yackandandah Courthouse on September 29th (https://www.trybooking.com/300956 ) and the Produce Store in Mansfield on Saturday 30th (https://www.trybooking.com/300969 ).
Then its over to South Australia on October 6th & 7th for shows at the Courthouse in Auburn and the Wheatsheaf in Adelaide (https://tickets.oztix.com.au/?Event=77214&
If you can get to any of the above shows folks, please get out and show your support. Neil would love to see you and compare road notes about how far you had to travel to make the show!
Further ahead, in November “An evening with Neil Murray” is at the Caravan Club, Oakleigh on Saturday November 18th. Neil will perform two intimate sets accompanied by Damien Neil (Standby for a possible show north of the Yarra for Sunday 19th.)
Neil is (apparently) confirmed to showcase at the Australian Music week in Cronulla, NSW in early November- however no further details are at hand at the time of this newsletter release.
Final show for 2017 is currently scheduled for the Loft in Warrnambool on Friday December 8th (https://tickets.oztix.com.au/?Event=78064&
utm_source=Oztix&utm_medium=Website). This could change if some late gig casts draw a bite.
Neil is planning a 3-week trip to Italy and Spain in January. No gigs are planned unless- someone out there has a sure fire contact? He won’t be taking a guitar but it would not be too difficult to find one if a performance opportunity presented itself.
Looking ahead into 2018. Tasmania is firmly on Neil’s radar for the first weekend in February.
Reminding everyone, that the 32-track compilation “Hindsight” is now available for digital download through iTunes. The CD version is available at Neil’s shows or by purchase order through his website.
Update: Tjungukutu project with Sammy Butcher
Sammy- despite the disability in his right hand - has made an attempt to lay guitar on 4 tracks. These sessions in May were a wonderful boost to Sammy’s spirits. We now wait for him to make a contribution to the remaining tracks.
Also on the recording front- in October Neil intends to commence initial work on a new solo album – which will not see completion before 2018.
Now, put on some Neil Murray music and get back to that Spring-cleaning folks.
